Life is a joyride

Just yesterday I wrote about how I felt like I had not just hit a brick wall, but I built the wall myself and shot myself in the foot in the process. Multitasking, I tell ya. Anyway, its so funny how I gave myself this virtual pep talk and today I bring exciting news. I’m [...]

Just yesterday I wrote about how I felt like I had not just hit a brick wall, but I built the wall myself and shot myself in the foot in the process. Multitasking, I tell ya. Anyway, its so funny how I gave myself this virtual pep talk and today I bring exciting news. I’m listed on not one but TWO websites! My last session with Yvette and Eddie (and their little bun in the oven) was so inspiring that I decided that I needed more bellies, babies and cute couples in my life. So I found these really great sites and had to be a part of the fun. You have to check out all the cuteness on these sites. GO! NOW!

A brick wall

April 28th, 2011

Why has it become so difficult for me to blog? Sometimes I think about writing a blog and I think building a brick wall and then starring at it would be more productive. When this all began I was all over this thing, sharing about everything from shoes, bags and phones to what this blog [...]

Why has it become so difficult for me to blog? Sometimes I think about writing a blog and I think building a brick wall and then starring at it would be more productive. When this all began I was all over this thing, sharing about everything from shoes, bags and phones to what this blog is really about – reflections on experiences photographing people. But since I launched a website, I’ve been neglecting my voice. When I was in Seattle attending the Jasmine Star CreativeLive course, I learned such a critical piece of advice that I constantly hear in my head. Someone asked about the advantages of a website and blog versus a blogsite. Personal preference plays a huge role in this decision, but I agree with the response Jasmine gave (not verbatim): your website is like your business card, while your blog is like your hand shake. So basically my online presence has become everything I dislike about most businesses/ sales people. Example A: If someone I don’t know very well hands me a business card, more than likely that card is going to end up in the trash. (Didn’t I just say my website is like a business card?) Example B: If someone gives a weak introduction or handshake I get the impression that I was just blown off or the person is not committed. (Hello, the blog is the handshake!) Example C: If a business has a weak web presence I most likely won’t do business with them. I may be better off just shooting myself in the foot and getting it over with. This blog is where everything began and I have to keep it going.

I’m still not sure why it’s been so hard for me to blog, but I know I needed to put it out there in order to become more accountable. I’ve built the brick wall, now it’s time to get over it.

Celebrate Life | Eddie and Yvette’s Bump (part II)

Since I began this photography journey, I have been curious about photographing all types of things, people and places. In my opinion, to be a great photographer you must be able to photograph anything. And do it well. I believe it can take a lifetime to actually gain the experience to be considered a great photographer. But what a way to spend a lifetime! Sign me up!

Along with photographing new subjects, sometimes you get so lucky to stumble on something you didn’t even know you’d love.  For me it was this preggo session.  I love kids and babies, but for some reason I never thought I’d be so in love with maternity portraits. I mean LOVE.

Yvette and Eddie are about to welcome their baby girl Elyse in to the world and I had the pleasure of documenting this very special time in their lives. I am so fortunate to have friends that trust me and were willing to let me take creative control over their session. I couldn’t have asked for a better day, a better location or a better couple to photograph. Congratulations to the new family!

Did I mention this family bleeds purple and gold? Did I need to?

Check out the Living Portrait movie of Eddie and Yvette’s session in the previous post.

Ok, back on the horse. I realized last night that I fell off the blogging wagon and thats just not ok! I’ve been so consumed with the rebranding, ordering sample albums, designing new business cards, fixing kinks on my new website… But I’m back! I missed the interaction and with all of you out there [...]

I’ve been so consumed with the rebranding, ordering sample albums, designing new business cards, fixing kinks on my new website… But I’m back! I missed the interaction and with all of you out there so I promise this next week I’ll post pictures from these sessions.
