I had an opportunity of a lifetime to learn from celebrity photographer Mike Colon. Mike is an amazing photographer and such a down to earth person! His workshops come highly recommended and I now know why. He’s an open book with years of experience, a resource that is not often accessible. As most of my readers know I have been on the fence about wedding photography, as I wasn’t sure it was the type of photography in which I wanted to specialize. Well after hanging out with the crew last week at the Southern California Mike Colon Shooting Workshop, I fell in love with wedding photography all over again. I mean what’s not to love? Abundant details, beautiful happy people, yummy light, and an opportunity to fulfill my entire intention behind photography, capturing people’s most cherished memories. Sounds magical right? That’s because it is! Proof is in the pictures!

For those who don’t know me so well, you may think I’m just a photographer. Well for starters, I don’t know any photographers who are just photographers. We are much too complex to be of just one art form! From graphic design, to painting and sketching, to trying my best to create beautiful and tasty treats in the kitchen, I am a creative force. I used to take my artistic gifts for granted. I really didn’t understand that there are people who don’t have creative visions. But now I embrace and fully employ all of my talents. My latest project was gigantic. I was in charge of remodeling my mother in law’s new home. We did massive work on this place, gutting out the landscaping, kitchen and bathrooms. It was thrilling to see my vision come to life, and executed so well! Here’s the tour… (Before photos show the previous owner’s furniture and decorations)

We moved the A/C vent to instantly update the look of the entry.

Wall colors are different, curtains taken down.

Viola! Storage cabinet area is now a functional bar!

Old fashion kitchen updates galore!
The guest room seems tremendously larger!
Bedroom #2 was converted into a study.
Guest bath is one of my favorite parts.
Master bedroom window was converted into french doors. The room feels much bigger!
And French doors added to the bathroom as well! The vanity now has a makeup area and a new mosaic floor!
The old master bath only had a soaking tub and was very small. Now there’s an oversized walk-in shower!
The roof in the backyard was lifted and half of the roof is solid to create an outdoor room for extra shade and cover on rainy days.
Patio outside of the master bedroom.
New bricked eating area.
And lots of flowers so it would feel like “Disneyland”… a special request. :)

Today I did something I rarely do. I actually logged into my Facebook account from my computer and the strangest thing happened. Typically I check Facebook from my phone, which is set only to display most recent updates. But on the computer, my Facebook homepage displays a “top news” feed which today featured image after image of babies and pregnant bellies. That may not seem strange to you, but if you were in my shoes you’d probably have a small panic attack. It was as if my mother and mother in law hacked into Facebook and rigged it to send me a message. You know, that “I’m not getting any younger and neither are you” message. Needless to say, I closed that window as fast as possible and navigated my way to Pinterest (yes, more social networking).  But I should have known, immediately I was bombarded with images of cute baby clothes and nursery inspirations. So I figured, no time like the present to sift through all the marketing emails pilled up in my mailbox. The first email I opened, was this month’s newsletter from Professional Photographer Magazine. Safe? Almost. The first article was about Etsy stores photographers must visit one of which was Baby P Designs. At this point, I just gave up and started to enjoy it. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed it so much that I found a few Etsy store gems that would be perfect for new and expecting parents to check out! Enjoy!

The Stork Sling by Baby P Designs is so perfect for newborn photos!

I know lots of little diva babies who would be perfect for something like this custom headband from My Sweet Bee’s shop!

I made sure I found something for the boys too.  How cute is this little guy in this Chunky Newsboy Cap from Mary Yarns?!

Don’t forget about the new packages for all of you new parents!

Danielle and Jair are getting married next month! Yep, the big day is coming up pretty quick and I’m so excited to be photographing this milestone. I had been looking forward to this session for a long time, not just because these are my friends, not just because they are a great couple, but because I could get Jair back for teasing me and Jeff about taking engagement photos! Oh yes, revenge is sweet. But more importantly, Danielle and Jair will have photos to document this moment in time for the rest of their lives. It had been a while since I had photographed a couple, so I went a little crazy and turned our scheduled 45 minute mini session into a full on 2 hour marathon… But I’m so glad I did. Check it out!
