Last week I celebrated my 28th birthday doing one of the things I love most. Eating. My besties both took me out for sushi on two separate days (score!), and my hubs took me to experience the legendary Killer Shrimp in Marina Del Rey – which actually just reopened earlier this month after shutting the doors of it’s landmark Venice location in 2008. After 4 years of talking this place up, I finally had the chance to judge the Killer Shrimp for myself, and let me be the first to tell you- it did not disappoint. If you like shrimp and spicy food, let’s plan to be best friends forever and go to Killer Shrimp for lunch every day.

On top of devouring all that delicious food last week, I also got the chance to do something else I love: put a smile on some faces. This year for my birthday I hosted a giveaway for 2 engagement sessions and wedding photography. It is always amazing and inspiring to hear stories of love and experience love through the eyes of my readers. If I ever win the Lotto, I promise I will offer free photography to all of you, but as of now there were 3 winning couples who I’m really looking forward to working with.

Couple #1 Todd & Sara

Todd and Sara are planning their wedding for June 2012. I totally laughed out loud when I saw this picture with the caption “Our faces when we saw or wedding bill.” HILARIOUS.

Couple #2 Anna & Jimmy

Anna and Jimmy are planning their wedding for August 2012. Anna’s caption: “It is amazing what a spray tan, hair, and make-up artist can do… Jimmy likes to be bronzed and beautiful.” Clearly, I love the jokes!

As for Couple #3.. the WEDDING winners… well, that’s my little secret.  I decided not to post the picture or names of the wedding couple, because I don’t want their wedding to be scrutinized in any way. Just know they are AWESOME and SO deserving of this grand prize. <3

Thanks everyone for making my birthday extra special!

Venice, California Bridal Shower | Purple Meadows Events

I met Debra at a Creative Connection USA/LA event. I really didn’t know what this event was, I didn’t really know what Creative Connection USA was, but I wanted to know. We met at the Santa Monica lounge-spot Upper West. My expectations were low, not because of the location, but because I had literally been referred to this event hours before. I thought to myself, if nothing else at least I can check out a new spot and get a glass of wine. I pulled up, valeted my car and walked into a private room of fashion forward ladies who were chatting away while sipping on pretty drinks. My kind of scene. Elise, a petite girl with an enormous smile, and Emilee (who had an equally big smile and a fun vintage frock) were at the door to greet me with a name tag and a little bag to collect business cards. In the first 10 minutes, I met photographers, stylists, florist, and a few other crafty ladies who offer superb services like invitation design, and blinged out cake toppers. My low expectations were squashed.

Debra is an event planner (Purple Meadows Event Studio) who was in need of a photographer for a friend’s bridal shower (that’s were I come in). We were chatting though email the night before and she suggested I check out the CCUSA event. Bada bing bada boom. That’s how the magic happened. Debra planned out a tropical bridal shower in a Venice backyard. If you’re familiar with Venice, you may have trouble putting “tropical” and “backyard” in the same sentence, but Debra’s genius design skills made it happen and it was gorgeous!

The bride and her personal bartender. And above her? Those are called S’muffins. I’m sure they are just as magical as this bridal shower was. I will be getting that recipe asap!

Los Angles has a more event venues than you can probably imagine. Thats one of the benefits to being a photographer in Southern California. Its actually possible for wedding photographers to go years without photographing the same place twice. As much as I want to see all there is out there, and work my magic behind the lens, I hope that never happens to me. There are some places in LA that just have so much charm, they feel like home. The Ebell of Los Angeles is one of the most charming places I’ve photographed. I had never been there, so when Lizzi asked me along on this wedding, I jumped at the opportunity!  My most favorite part of the entire venue was the second floor vintage theatre, complete with stacks of vintage National Geographic magazines, books, and years of dusty goodness. It was one of those places where you walk in an you can hear the chatter from years past. Check out Adriana and Gera’s magical day.

Did I need to say anything about this handsome little guy? I didn’t think so. And yes, the tie kills me too.

It”s September and you know what that means! Giveaway time! So for new followers of the blog, here is the back story on my birthday giveaway:

Since I turned 11 years old, I hated my birthday. I don’t know why I suddenly had a change of heart about celebrating my day of birth, but for some reason it happened. Every year I look forward to September, but as soon as the 1st hits and everyone starts asking me what I want to do for my birthday the excitement dies. Last year I had a revelation about spreading the joy to others. What did I really want for my birthday? To bring joy to someone else. To spread a little love from my heart to yours. The best way I knew how to do it was to offer a session to a few deserving people. Last year’s winners were Cameron and Tracy who decided to do an engagement session at CSUN (which we share as an alma mater). Like my elders always told me “the more you give the more you receive.” Out of that session I gained a couple of new photographer friends! Win-win! I had some great entries and some were even from previous clients who were looking to pass along a session to some deserving folks, which inspired me to go a little big bigger this year…

For the 2011 giveaway there will be not one, not two, but THREE prizes to give away… are you ready for this?

2 entries will win an on-location engagement session

Each engagement session will include up to 2 consecutive hours of shooting and an online gallery. Participants must be willing to sign a contract permitting images to be used online (facebook and blog). If travel is required, the winning party are responsible for travel and hotel accommodations.

1 lucky couple will win 6 hours of wedding photography!

Yes, 6 hours of wedding photography for free. Call me crazy, but while I was planning this year’s giveaway I had a strong pull on my heart to give this away. Entries for this prize must include a story. A real story. The story of how the couple met, what they do to bring joy to other’s lives or just why you think they deserve this gift.

This prize includes up to 6 hours for wedding photography and an online gallery ONLY. Hours may be used toward existing Celebration Portraits wedding collections. Prize may not be combined with any show discounts. The wedding must take place by November 2012. If travel is required, the winning party is responsible for travel and hotel accommodations for the photographer and assistant.

ALL ENTRIES MUST INCLUDE: the names of the future bride and groom, wedding date, wedding location and a photo of the couple to post on the blog when the winner is announced.

Submit entries to stephanie@celebrationportraits.com by September 22, 2011.

To be considered for an extra entry like the Celebration Portraits Facebook page and leave a comment so I know you were there!

Now go tell everyone you know!
